Whitelodge Vets, Minehead

There was a vet practice in our village and Whitelodge moved almost next door to them, and took two of their nurses. The new practice manager at Whitelodge had their phone lines cut off and farmers couldn't get their animals to market because of it. It was terrible. I thought vets were supposed to help each other? Whitelodge Vets have always been expensive and they run up tests that aren't needed. I'm angry because this seems planned and the old vets aren't there any more.

Cat spay

My work colleague had a friend who took their cat to the vets to get spayed and three months later the cat had kittens! It was a foreign vet, and nobody could understand him. Another vets got involved and they blamed the chief vet but the foreign vet did the spay. What a mess! A foreign vet must speak good English to work in this country.

Whitelodge prices

I knew this lady that took her dog to a vet practice for some treatment and was given antibiotics as a result of the visit. The antibiotics cost her about £50. She wasn't happy and so she took her dog to another vet called Whitelodge vets. Instead of providing a better service than the other vet, they charged her a pretty astounding £850 and the animal died! Ironically, the tests carried out by Whitelodge indicated that the cause of death was an infection which is treated by antibiotics! Perhaps she should have stayed with the previous vet practice, at least then it would have been cheaper for her!

Insurance

My wife has a dog and we thought about getting insurance but we were put off it by what happened at the vets. They decided to change their computers because they hired them and they said it was very expensive. They could only get records from the computers that went back two years but the insurance company insisted it wanted twenty years. Insurance companies will do anything to not pay.

Ops table

Mrs. S had a dog that went for an operation and it came back with a broken hip. She found out from a vet nurse who worked there that her dog had jumped off the operating table and they hadn't told her but tried to cover it up. That's disgraceful! She said it was Whitelodge.

Money-grabbing

At the surgery I go to, I know a client who came to us from Whitelodge. He said that he came because a partner at Whitelodge had allowed his bill to get to 3,000 pounds, but the partner didn't tell him that he thought the dog would die anyway. This was dishonest. Whitelodge have lost a lot of clients to our practice.

Too expensive

Took my beautiful cat to the vets. He has a few scabs due to an allergy to any flea bite. This cost me £81.00! The fee for just checking him over alone was £30! I was in there less than 5 mins (£360 an hour), he had a steriod injection, antibiotics and 3 pipettes of flea drops. £81...I dont begrudge spending money on him as I am a responsible pet owner (although he thinks he owns me, lol) but it's no wonder people don't take animals to get treament and the animal suffers. That's just a ridiculous amount of money.

Making a mint!

I took *** to the vets - we were not in there for 5 mins, and all she needed was a repeat for her tabs. It cost us £60; don't get me wrong I would pay the earth for my animals, but some one is making a mint and its not me! lol...

Coughing up more cash

We have six dogs, and it gets mighty dear. We even came home with kennel cough last year, and guess what... it cost me a fortune, and it was picked up at the vets... grrrrrr!
