EpiVet Online is interested in providing practical solutions to healthcare problems. Expertise from within the industry is used to address some of the issues that are of current interest, particularly issues that affect the public. Research and development advances from within the industry are applied in a pragmatic way.
EpiVet has owned four veterinary practices in the South of England during the past decade, including both mixed practices and small animal surgeries. The company expanded into general practice in 2002, after a number of years developing software to control the spread of animal disease.
EpiVet was originally registered in 1995 as a software company (rather than as a veterinary group), developing models of animal disease. An accurate model will predict how much a disease will spread and the best way to control the spread. An inaccurate model can give misleading or false impressions that can disrupt administrators' plans over how to control a disease. Models may therefore be very beneficial or negatively disruptive. EpiVet won an award from the UK Department of Trade and Industry in 2001 to model foot-and-mouth disease, based upon PhD work and papers co-authored by the Head of the World Reference Laboratory for Foot-and-Mouth Disease (and others). |
